What's Eating Your Collection?

Adult beetle. There are dozen of species, none are pests of collections. The larvae (wireworms) are pests of grassland.

Size: 5mm - 12mm

Shape: Parallel-sided oval

Colour: Mostly variants of black, brown or a combination

Antennae: Long

Distinguishing features: Prothorax has two long projections at either side that extend towards the elytra (wing cases).

Adults eat: Very little

Larvae are not pests. They eat roots of grass.

Damage: None

Often found on: Traps at exit doors.
